Government of Uttar Pradesh is developing Kushinagar airport spread over 300 acre of land. Government of Uttar Pradesh has recently approved an additional sum of Rs 50 crore for the project. The overall budgetary amount approved so far is around Rs 120 crore. Funds would be used for the development of a 3 km-long runway, a taxi way, tarmac and a boundary wall. The works are likely to get over by July, 2017. The work on the air traffic control office construction is expected to start by the end of the year. To take this project forward in the absence of any private developer citing non-viability issues, the state government has now agreed to hand over construction of the terminal building to Airports Authority of India.
