Private equity has come to the rescue of the real estate sector in India. Till 2014, Bank funding was anywhere between 50 - 57 per cent. The bank credit has slumped in the last two years to 26 per cent. Private equity (PE) financing now accounts for around 75 per cent in the real estate sector. As per Knight Frank India report, the total funding in the real-estate sector increased 40 per cent to $5.4 billion in 2016 from $3.8 billion in 2011.
