Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and Russian petrochemical giant SIBUR have recently signed an MoU to set up South Asia’s first butyl rubber halogenation unit at RIL’s integrated petrochemical site in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Reliance Sibur Elastomers Pvt Ltd (RSEPL) – a joint venture (JV) of RIL (74.9% stake), and SIBUR (25.1% stake) will set up this unit with a production capacity of 60,000 MT of halogenated butyl rubber per year. The said JVC is currently constructing a 1,20,000 MT per annum butyl rubber plant at the same venue which will feed the necessary butyl rubber to the halogenation unit
