Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) has started construction work on the Bhendi Bazaar Redevelopment Project. The project, which is a brainchild of the late Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (RA) to uplift environs of Bhendi Bazaar, is now carried forward by his son and successor, His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin (TUS).
Addressing a large gathering of the community members, His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin (TUS). stated that the construction work on sub-clusters 1 & 3 along with other sub-clusters should be fast-tracked to ensure that the families and businesses are re-housed and rehabilitated timely. The construction on sub-clusters 1 and 3 has started and work on other sub-clusters will start soon in phases. Currently more than 70 dilapidated buildings have been demolished and over 1700 families and 400 businesses have been vacated from Bhendi Bazaar.
The Project is identified as the National Best Practise Project that will not only set a precedent for urban renewal projects in Mumbai but also provide impetus for other inner-city redevelopment projects across the country. The ambitious upliftment project covers 16.5 acre of land has more than 250 decrepit buildings, 3200 families and 1250 shops. All of these will be incorporated into a state-of-the-art sustainable development plan with 17 new buildings, wide roads, modern infrastructure, more open spaces and highly visible commercial areas. The creation of new infrastructure and availability of technology at their disposal will infuse growth and open new avenues for the businesses in the area.
