The Centre has recently allocated Utkal D and E coal blocks in favour of Nalco. With this allocation, around 200 million tonne of coal will be added to the captive resources of the company. The company has already set up a 4.6 lakh tonne smelter and 1,200 MW Captive Power Plant in Odisha's Angul district. The allocation of coal blocks would ensure smooth functioning of the captive power plant. This coal block were allotted earlier to Nalco in 2004 and was later cancelled by the Supreme Court order.
