Presently, due to depressed market conditions investments have reduced but we believe the same will pick up soon. Sivasubramanian Natarajan, Managing Director, ThyssenKrupp Industries India Pvt Ltd (TKII) shares his views with Sandeep Sharma about his company, core competencies, range of material handling (MH) equipments/ systems,insight about the MH industry, emerging trends and technologies, FY2013-14 review, manufacturing base, products recommended for ports, mining and power sector, prestigious clientele and projects, need to train manpower, future plans and lastly what needs to be done by the Government of India to boost growth. Edited Excerpts.... Could you tell us about your company and core competencies? ThyssenKrupp Industries India Pvt. Ltd. (TKII) is part of the Industrial Solutions Business Area of the global conglomerate ThyssenKrupp AG, Germany. TKII has been contributing to India’s core sectors of mining, power, cement, sugar and infrastructure for more than 50 years. TKII is a preferred turnkey contractor in the field of open cast mining & bulk material handling, sugar plants & machinery, cement plants & machinery and boilers & power plants. Could you talk about your range of material handling equipment and systems, technical superiority, design, features, hot selling models and client preferences? TKII caters to the complete range of equipments and systems in the field of Bulk material handling for core sectors like power, open cast mining, steel plants, refineries and ports. We attribute our technological strength to the world class German technology of ThyssenKrupp Resource Technologies, who are the pioneers in these fields. We have access to the widest range of world class technology which includes the technology of Krupp, Buckau Wolf, PHB, PWH, O&K, Demag Lauchhammer, Weserhutte and Robins, which have merged with ThyssenKrupp over the years. Taking about ‘hot selling’ models, we would like to assert that we are one of the few companies who can design and supply bucket wheel excavators. Our numerous Bucket wheel excavators are operative in the Neyveli mines in Tamil Nadu. Currently, the circular stacker reclaimers, portal scrapper reclaimers, barrel reclaimers and twin type rotary wagon tipplers are our most sought after products and we are currently supplying India’s first twin type rotary wagon tippler (With G.33 Rev 01 Design) for Tata Kalinganagar project. We also make a wide range of crushers and screens for various applications for coal, Iron ore and other minerals. TKII has designed and supplied several rubber belt conveyors for various plants in India and abroad. Could you provide us an insight about the material handling industry in India? What are the emerging trends and technologies in the material handling industry? • Larger size machines and plants • More environmental friendly systems • Higher focus on safety How was the FY2013-14 in terms of business generated? What’s your market share in the material handling segment in India? Considering the depressed market condition in FY 2013-14, I feel we have done well in the material handling system. We have a healthy order backlog for the year. However it’s important for us to prepare for more challenges posed by the market in terms of better costs and higher efficiency. We will target increase in market share by focusing on these market requirement. Do you have any hopes for market revival in FY2014-15? India has a big need to develop the infrastructure and Power to meet with the growing demand of the population and the aspirations of our young people. Unlike developed countries, we do have a big domestic demand which will help the market revival. Could you share with us details about your manufacturing base, capacity and production process? We have two large state of the art manufacturing facilities in India; located at Pune and Hyderabad. These facilities cater to wide variety of complete portfolio of material handling systems and equipment. We are constantly upgrading them to make them suitable for the demanding requirements of the market. Which industry segments do you cater to? How is the response so far from these segments? TKII caters to the complete range of equipments and systems in the field of Bulk material handling for core sectors like Power, Open cast mining, Steel Plants & Refineries and Ports. Which of your products would you recommend for ports, mining and power sector? In power sector we provide total turnkey solutions for the complete coal handling system from unloading/receipt of the coal via wagons up to delivery into the boiler bunkers. Our products include belt conveyor systems, wagon tippler and paddle feeders, complete stockyard management systems (stacking and reclaiming machines), crushing and screening units, wagon loading stations etc. In the open cast mining sector we supply complete turnkey solutions right from excavation of the material up to loading on to the wagons or conveying it to the plant, as the case may be. Our product range includes bucket wheel excavators, mobile transfer conveyors, shiftable conveyors, mobile and semimobile crushing plants, transport crawlers, spreaders, pipe conveyors, downhill conveyors etc. For the steel plants, refineries and fertilizer plants include fixed and slewable stackers, twin boom stackers, bucket wheel reclaimers, bridge type reclaimers, barrel reclaimers, circular stacker recalimer and blending systems, portal and semi portal reclaimers. At the heart of any bulk material handling system lies an efficient and robust belt conveyor system. We also pride ourselves in this field of high capacity overland conveyors and pipe conveyors. Our products range of ship loaders, barge loaders, continuous ship unloaders along with the stockyard machines provide a end to end solution for the ports sector. With new environmental regulations in place and the need of optimized system, we are also focusing on our products like the flow dividers, twin wagon tipplers, transfer platform and pipe conveyors to help optimize the system requirements in various sectors. What’s your take on the need to train manpower using material handling system /equipment’s in India? Use of welltrained manpower in operating and maintenance will ensure higher availability and longer life of the plant assets. With the introduction of new technologies and larger size machines, the need for trained manpower is ever increasing. Where do you see your India operations five years from now? Do you have any plans for expansion in India in the near term? TKII will continue to invest in R&D to make its products more efficient, versatile and environment friendly.
