The proposal to expand the terminal building at Madurai airport to accommodate more passengers is in the approval stage. The work might need Rs. 300 crore. It will commence in nine months and be completed in one year after the commencement. The existing terminal will be expanded 30 m on both sides.

The foundation stone has been laid for a Rs. 1,296 crore project to bring drinking water through pipelines directly from Mullaperiyar dam to Madurai city. When completed by 2023, all 100 wards of the city corporation would have water supply 24x7.

MMC plans to establish a 5 million litres per day (MLD) sewage treatment plant worth Rs. 19.96 crore. Technical evaluation is being carried out.

A multi-level car parking facility which is under construction near the Meenakshi Amman temple will be completed and ready for public use by next month. As many as 110 four-wheelers and 1,401 two-wheelers can be parked in the facility, constructed at a cost of Rs. 40.19 crore under the Smart Cities mission.

Construction work on the LPG bottling plant of BPCL at Kappalur on the outskirts of Madurai has been completed and it is to be commissioned soon. The plant, on 22 acres, involved an outlay of Rs. 80 crore excluding the land cost. It is the 5th bottling plant of BPCL in Tamil Nadu.

BPCL will shortly commission its new bottling plant at Madurai. The plant would have an annual capacity of 45 metric tonnes, or around 12,000 cylinders per day. The total project cost would be Rs. 80 crore and the facility would generate 100 direct and indirect jobs.

Construction work on the Rs. 45.55 crore convention centre at Thamukkam under the Smart Cities Mission is making good progress. Officials estimate that around 20 per cent of the work has been completed with workers from Erode district engaged for the project, after many migrant workers left for their home towns.

The corporation has purchased eight Bhelmister equipments from Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), Ranipet to continue disinfection activities more effectively in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. Operated with electric power, the equipment has a capacity to pump out 1,000 litres of disinfection materials in one hour and cover large areas quickly.

Has bagged an order worth Rs 358 crore from the Madurai Municipal Corporation. The project has to be completed in 30 months followed by a six-month trial run and commissioning.
