JSW Steel has earmarked a sum of Rs 10,000 crore to increase use of renewable energy to replace thermal power and other green initiatives. The company has already contracted for 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy, of which 225 MW has become operational in April 2022, and the balance will come on stream in phases.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Ministry of Power (MoP) have proposed a scheme for setting up of three manufacturing zones for renewable energy and power equipment—two brownfield manufacturing zones, and a greenfield manufacturing zone in a coastal area with a total financial outlay of Rs 1,000 crore.

GE Steam Power has signed $165 million contract with BHEL for the supply of three nuclear steam turbines out of six units for NPCIL’s domestic nuclear program- phase 1 being developed at Gorakhpur, Haryana (units - 1 to 4 (GHAVP)) and Kaiga (Kaiga-5&6), Karnataka.

The government will invite bids from states to sell electricity generated from 8,000 megawatt (MW) thermal capacities without PPAs. A total of 8,000 MW of thermal capacities in India are without any power purchase agreements.

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was signed between the Power department and Fitzroy Energy and Minerals in the presence of advisor to Power department, H. Tovihoto Ayemi and officials from Power department and Finance Department.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched seven power projects in different districts with an investment of Rs 450 crore to strengthen the infrastructure. The projects include six high power grid substations in Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Khurda and Sambalpur districts and a 220-KV transmission line from Balangir to Kesinga.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik said the state government would spend Rs 1,800 crore to set up 99 more 33/11 KV sub-stations to improve power distribution.
