It is quite challenging for a country like India with a 1.32 billion population to provide housing for all. The working group on rural housing for the Twelfth Five-Year Plan estimated the rural housing shortage in India to be 43.13 million in 2012.

Plans to build 3,000 houses for the economically weaker sections (EWS) and 7,000 flats for lower and middle income groups. The EWS houses will be mainly for slum dwellers who will be rehabilitated in these new housing units. Areas like Kathwada, Nikol, Bhat-Sughad and Khodiyar are among the villages chosen where affordable houses will come up

Plans to construct 8,799 houses for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the society at different locations in the state.The state government has approved Rs 329 crore in this regard.
