Homegrown ride-hailing firm Ola is looking to set up a manufacturing hub for electric two-wheelers in Tamil Nadu, for which it signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government. With an investment of Rs 2,400 crore, it would employ 10,000 people and would have an initial production capacity of 2 million vehicles annually.

The firm has started commercial operations at its new truck manufacturing unit at Bagroda, Bhopal. The company’s eighth manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh has been set up with Industry 4.0 standards. In the first phase, the new plant will have the capacity to manufacture 40,000 trucks.

The firm’s plan to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing unit in Bagalkot district had been approved by the state government. The unit will be set up in Achanur village, and the company will also set up solar power plants and chemical units, which will help other companies investing in the space.

Tamil Nadu is planning to set up the countrys first park exclusively for the electric vehicle production eco-system. The state is targeting investments of about Rs. 50,000 crore in the EV segment and has announced a series of incentives to attract investments in this space.

FCA has set up an IT centre in Hyderabad with a capacity to seat 2,000 employees. The centre will be a technology backbone that will accelerate FCAs digitisation efforts.

The Hyderabad-based electric mobility solutions and services company has signed a memorandum with the Telangana government to set up a greenfield manufacturing facility for its range of electric three- wheelers at an investment of Rs. 150 crore. The plant will be built over a period of five years.

SMG has completed construction of its plant No. 3 at Hansalpur, Gujarat, and is starting preparations to commence vehicle manufacturing at the plant from April 2021. Production volume from the plant will depend upon business conditions and market demand.

DICV has set up a new Global Capability Centre in Perungudi city that would host shared services. These include exports of DICV solutions to other Daimler entities, research and development, information technology, human resources and customer service, among others.

Union minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that the government is working towards making India a global automobile manufacturing hub in the next five years. The government is already making policies to support the industry, he said, adding that India can become the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
