Even as the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) aka Mahavitaran is preparing to install smart prepaid meters in Pune and across Maharashtra in the coming days, the company has asked for an ‘automatic power disconnection facility’ in these meters for consumers who fail to pay electricity bills on time.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL) have entered into an agreement to enhance Delhi’s power distribution. ADB will subscribe to non-convertible debentures for Rs 1.5 billion for grid enhancements, and a $2 million grant to partially finance the purchase and integration of a pilot battery energy storage system (BESS).

A 16-hour power outage in Wagholi last week prompted Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) officials to provide two new substations for smooth power supply in the area. The 22/11 KV Gera substation was approved for consumers in Wagholi and will be functional in the next six months.

RP Sanjiv Goenka Group will invest Rs 10,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh. Out of this, Rs 7,500 crore will be invested in renewables, while power distribution and retail sectors will receive Rs 1,000 crore each

The state government has decided to implement Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) with an investment of around 11,000 crore with the support of the Union government. The scheme would help in strengthening the power distribution system, reduce losses and enhance operational efficiency.

The Indian Railways is planning to introduce multiple wagon tipplers to speed up the coal distribution network across the country. Along with additional wagon tipplers, the railway is also looking to have additional wagon unloading lines to de-load the coal wagons at the powerhouses.

The Tamil Nadu government unveiled its ambitious TNEB 2.0 to augment the power infrastructure to meet the state’s growing demand. Given the forecast of 24,000MW power demand in the next 10 years, Tangedco has set a deadline to add 6,220 MW to the grid in the next five years by commissioning seven projects at a cost of Rs 41,623 crore.
