TATA group's Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) will operate Cochin International Airport's (CIAL) five-star hotel at the airport premises with an estimated investment of Rs 100 crore.

The Tata Group aims to open small exclusive Apple stores across the country. The iPhone maker is tying up with Tata-owned Infiniti Retail, which runs the Croma store chain, for the venture. Infiniti Retail will become an Apple franchise partner and intends to open 100 such outlets of 500-600 sq ft each at malls as well as high-street and neighbourhood locations.

The Tata Group is in talks with three states to invest up to $300 million to set up a semiconductor assembly and test unit as part of the conglomerates push into high-tech manufacturing. Tata is reportedly talking to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana and scouting for land for the outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) plant.

The Tata Group may raise up to Rs 15,000 crore through a syndicated loan to support its acquisition of Air India. The loan may be raised with a three-year maturity offering about 7 per cent. State Bank of India is expected to be the lead banker in the proposed syndication.

The government will support the setting up of the semiconductor industry in India, which will also help reduce foreign exchange outflows, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said, soon after the Tata Group announced its intention to enter the business, at a time when there is a global shortage of the product.

The Tata group is investing Rs 5,000 crore to set up a phone component manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. Tata Electronics, a Tata Sons company, has been allotted 500 acres by Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and group firm Titan Engineering and Automation Ltd will provide the expertise.

The Odisha government has accorded in-principle approval for setting up a bulk drug park within the Tata Steel Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Gopalpur in Ganjam district. A land parcel of around 1,000 acres required for the park is available in the Tata SEZ. An SPV will be formed with IDCO as the lead promoter and TSSZEL (Tata Group) as co-promoter.

The group will set up a special hospital at Kasaragod in Kerala which could handle emergency situations. The facility will be set up at Thekkil village in Chemmanad panchayat, and will have 540 isolation beds and other facilities, apart from quarantine facility for 450. Finer details are yet to be formulated.

Tata group and Swiss aerospace and defence firm Ruag Aviation are setting up an aircraft manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. The factory will start by making cabins and wings in the first phase and in three years it will be manufacturing the 19-seater Dornier 228 aircraft.
