The Railway Ministry and the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) are spearheading the project for participation of private players in the operation of passenger train services on 100 Indian Railways routes. The Rs 22,500 crore project will see the introduction of 150 private train rakes.

South Western Railway is implementing the doubling of the Hubballi-Chikkajajur rail line is progressing well and likely to complete by end of 2019. The Ministry of Railways has prioritised this project and work the Railway Ministry had taken up the task on priority basis and work is simultaneously implemented in three-four sections.

The Railway Ministry has decided to set up the first Railway University by upgrading the National Academy of Indian Railways at Vadodara. EdCIL (India) Ltd has prepared Detailed Project Report for setting up the Railway University.

Indian Railways has taken up Khurda Road-Bolangir (289 km) new line project at an estimated cost of Rs.3050 cr. The implementation of Dasapalla-Bolangir segment of Khurda Road´ Bolangir New Broad Gauge Railway Line is planned on cost sharing basis between the Railway Ministry and Odisha Government.

Jaipur Metro Rail Project has got the green signal from the Railway Ministry on technical clearance for its operations in signal, telecom and electricity expansion system. The project execution is planned in two phases.
