Apr 20, 2022 Housing ministry approves construction of 2.02 lakh PMAY-Urban homes The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved construction of 2.02 lakh houses in eight states under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-Urban). The states where these homes will be constructed are Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

Over 32.07 lakh houses have been constructed and delivered so far under PMAY-U out of the total sanctioned 1.03 crore houses. A total 1,03,22,560 houses have been sanctioned under the scheme.

Housing ministry plans to allow residential projects in villages close to mega cities. Talks are on with the rural development ministry and a decision will be taken up soon. The housing shortage in the urban areas of the country is around 1.2 crore in 4,041 statutory urban local bodies. The Centre is targeting to provide houses to all urban poor by 2022.
