Taking cue from the Centre’s flagship Smart City mission programme to strengthen key public infrastructure projects while plugging air pollution menace, the Delhi government has announced to shell out a whopping Rs 2,388 crore to clear city roads from dust to curb air pollution.

Projects worth over Rs 10,000 crore are expected to be operational within the 10 smart cities of UP within a few months. Racing to meet the June 2023 deadline to meet the objectives stipulated under the Smart City Mission goals, the state government reviewed the progress being made by the urban development department.

Under the Smart City Mission, 1,742 cameras will be installed in Ludhiana, Punjab, in addition to 30 vehicle-mounted cameras and 600 infrared illuminators. The Rs 35.96 crore project will be completed within five years.

The Telangana government has issued an order to sanction Rs. 50 crore to the Warangal Smart City Mission, via administrative approval to the Telangana Urban Finance Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDC). According the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), Rs 37.64 crore against the proposed of Rs 87.64 crore were sanctioned earlier.

Twenty Eight projects worth approximately Rs 350 crore, including the construction of three flyovers, five roundabouts, five escalators and three smart parking lots, were approved by the Board of Directors of Shimla Smart City Mission.

The projects worth nearly Rs 16,350 crore out of the total Rs 1 lakh crore have been tendered under public-private partnership mode under the Smart City Mission. The cities are going ahead trying to attract private investment under the Smart City Project.

The cities are the centres of large scale economic activities and promise bucketful of employment. The rural folks in India migrate to the cities mainly for employment sake and improve upon their standard of living.
