The Central government would set up three bulk drug parks to make chemicals compounds or active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for medicines and reduce their imports from China. The parks will be set up at a cost of Rs. 14,300 crore in partnership with states to make chemicals for live-saving drugs.

SPL plans to establish a new line for production of polystyrene which will enhance production capacity by 80,000 TPA. The company is implementing the expansion project at its plant at village Amdoshi, Nagothane, Maharashtra. It is likely to be completed by December 2021.

German agrochemicals major Bayer has inaugurated a new Ethiprole manufacturing plant at its Vapi site in Gujarat with an investment of Rs. 200 crore, which will cater to domestic demand as well as exports. Spread over 85 acres, the Vapi site manufactures 11 active ingredients and 11 intermediates for use in crop protection, animal health and home and garden applications.

The company’s wholly owned subsidiary NACL Spec-Chem has acquired industrial land admeasuring around 19.70 acres at Dahej, Gujarat. The company has received environment clearance and GIDC transfer order for the land, which will be used to set up a greenfield project for manufacturing agrochemicals and active ingredients.

Anaven, a joint venture of Nouryon and Atul, has received the environmental clearance for its 32,000 tonne monochloroacetic acid (MCA) plant in Gujarat. Construction is due to be completed this year. The 50-50 joint venture will become the largest MCA plant in India. It will use chlorine and hydrogen manufactured by Atul to produce up to 32,000 metric tons of MCA per year initially.

Manali Petro’s board has approved increasing the capacity of propylene glycol (PG) from the existing 22,000 tonnes per annum to 70,000 TPA by adding 48,000 TPA, at an estimated cost of Rs. 150 crore. The project will be implemented in two phases. Subject to regulatory approvals, it is expected to be completed in 18-21 months.
