State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has partnered with New Delhi municipal council (NDMC) to install 75,000 smart electricity meters in place of the conventional ones. This would help in improving billing efficiency and rationalise electricity consumption in the city. The aim is to bring down aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses of state utilities by way of smart metering. As per the MOU signed with NDMC, EESL will fund, build, operate and maintain the smart metering solution. A system integrator to implement the smart metering solutions will be appointed within six months by EESL to integrate with NDMC IT legacy applications. As part of its nationwide drive, EESL aims to replace 25 crore conventional meters with smart meters in India.
