The Government of Maharashtra is considering a public private partnership policy for acquiring land parcels in the MMR region and develop low-cost homes. The state housing minister Prakash Mehta told reporters on the sidelines of CII event that the policy will be presented soon to the cabinet for consideration. Mhada will be the nodal planning authority for developing affordable homes. MHADA may acquire large land parcels like 100 to 500 acre in the MMR region from the owners and compensate them as per the agreed policy. The minister is optimistic of building nearly 10 lakh affordable homes once this policy is in place.
