Government of India plans to set up Nuclear energy plants in various locations. The in-principle approval is accorded to proposed Greenfield sites, which include Jatapur in Maharashtra, Kovvada in Andhra Pradesh, Bhimpur in Madhya Pradesh, Chhaya Mithi Virdi in Gujarat and Haripur in West Bengal. So far, the administrative approval and financial sanction has already been accorded to sites located at Gorakhpur, Haryana with a capacity 4×700 MW, Chutka, Madhya Pradesh with a capacity of 2×700 MW and Mahi Banswara, Rajasthan with a capacity of 4×700 MW of these. The pre-project activities are in progress with many of these sites. The excavation work has started at Gorakhpur, Haryana. The aims is to add 7000 MW of nuclear energy by the year 2031.
