NTPC may invest $10 billion in new coal based power plants

NTPC is the largest power utility company in India with a total installed capacity of 51,635 MW. Company has presence in Coal , Gas , Solar PV, Hydro and Wind Power Generation and Coal Mining. Power major NTPC plans to build three new plants with a combined capacity of more than 5 gigawatts (GW) and invest around $10 billion. The capacity targeted is  double the capacity of those currently being phased out. The investment is planned for a period of five years and despite the electricity regulator's assessment that thermal plants under construction will be able to meet electricity demand till 2027.

In the first phase, India's biggest power producer, NTPC, plans to build three new plants with a combined capacity of more than 5 gigawatts (GW), nearly double the capacity of those currently being phased out, five senior company officials said.
