Intex to invest Rs 1,000 crore to ramp up smart phone manufacturing unit

Mobile handset maker Intex Technologies plans to invest around Rs 1,000 crore in the next five years towards ramping up its smart-phone manufacturing unit at Noida in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Funding will be done through internal sources. The Noida unit has a current capacity of churning out 100,000 units a month. This unit was set up at an investment of Rs 100-150 crore. The company aims to increase the capacity to 15 lakh units per month by the end of the current fiscal. As of May 2015, the company sells around 6 lakh smart phone out of around 18 lakh mobile phones it sells in a month. A major chunk of these phones are imported from China. The unit in Noida will be more of an assembly unit, later it is likely to become full fledged manufacturing unit for smart phone.
